Hanna-Cheriyan Varghese is a wife, teacher, mother, grandmother and visual artist, but not necessarily in that order.

Hanna says, "As a visual artist I don't seem to get enough hours to paint and batik-dye. Other demands of daily life usurp my time."

She has worked with different medium like oil colours, metal-tooling and wood-block printing. Her great passion for the last many years is painting with Acrylic on canvas and batik-dyeing in fabric. Hanna says, "There is an element of surprise and wonder in dyeing. The colour is deep when the fabric is wet. When it dries it takes on a lighter shade. Finally the result of colour on colour is amazing when a new hue emerges."

From the early eighties, she began expressing her faith, spiritual thoughts and experiences together with Biblical imageries into tangible form. She says she was inspired by the artwork created by the many Asian Christian artists in the IMAGE Magazine, and subsequently meeting many of them.

Some of Hanna's artwork appear on the ACAA Gallery website: www.asianchristianart.org.

Hanna said, "I have been encouraged to set up these web pages because of the many requests from individuals and organizations who use my artwork in their workshops and publications (with permission, of course.)"
